The BULB Project

Over the last couple of years ProACT have been working closely with our good friends at Autism Inclusive in Crewe to provide individual consultations for people on the autism spectrum or their families.  Nearly 70% of the people we have been supporting are families with neurodiverse children who are facing significant barriers to education.  Often incorrectly tagged as ‘school refusers’, the barriers faced by these children often make accessing education an impossibility rather than a choice.

In response to this over-whelming problem, we have launched monthly support sessions at the Autism Inclusive Resource Centre in Crewe.  Aimed at providing both peer support and expert advice from professionals and experts by experience, the BULB Project looks to help parents break down and understand their child’s learning barriers.

Each session will start (6:00 – 7:00 p.m.) with some welcoming support over tea and coffee, where parents can talk to some of our experts.  Between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. we will hold a formal talk by a relevant professional or expert by experience.  The topics of these talks will focus on key areas relating to learning barriers and will be suggested and voted for by the attendees.  For the last hour (8:00 – 9:00 p.m.) we will discuss some of the main points raised during the formal talk, but more casually over tea and coffee.

Our talk on 23rd January will be “How to make capable environments at home and at school” by Mick Rimmington (Autism Consultant & Behaviour Therapist). Mick will be hosting this evening and will be available, along with Martyn and Liz from RISE education to field some of your questions both before and after the talk

There is no need to attend all of the session, all we ask is that attendees do not arrive or leave between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. when the formal talk is happening.  At present, there is no need to book, but if you are interested in attending it would be helpful if you could please just pop us a quick email so we have an idea about numbers.  Any questions please get back to us on admin@cheshire-autism.com
